US Navy Aircraft : The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman collided with a merchant ship near Egypt in the Mediterranean Sea on Wednesday night. What caused the collision between the US warship and the Panama-flagged ship Besiktas-M was not known, but the spokesman said that there was no flooding on Truman and its nuclear propulsion plant was unaffected.
At the same time, a Navy official said that there were no reports of any injuries on any ship, although the merchant ship suffered some damage. Investigations are currently underway to find out how they collided, but the official said that the area near the Suez Canal where they were is usually very densely packed with ships.
The tracked, 617-foot (188 meter) long bulk carrier Besiktas-M was reportedly leaving the Suez Canal and heading towards Romania. Tracking data shows that the 1,100-foot long Nimitz class aircraft carrier Truman was heading towards the canal.
Let us tell you that the area where the collision took place is near an anchorage near Port Said in Egypt, and about 100 ships were present there at the time of the incident.
