Sri Lanka Power supply is now being slowly restored in Sri Lanka. Due to power supply disruptions across the country, many buildings, including hospitals, have to rely on generators. At the same time, officials are saying that it may take a few hours to restore power supply across the island nation, with medical facilities and water purification plants being given priority first.
According to the information received, Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody has reportedly blamed a monkey for the power cut. He said the animal “came in contact with our grid transformer, causing an imbalance in the system”. At the same time, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said the power cut was caused by an emergency at a sub-station south of Colombo, and did not give any further details.
The minister said engineers were trying to restore service as soon as possible. CEB said “we are making every effort to restore island-wide power supply as soon as possible”. Hospitals and businesses in the island nation with a population of 22 million are using generators or inverters. Sri Lanka experienced widespread blackouts during its economic crisis in 2022.
