Prince documentary: Netflix, which had planned to stream the Ezra Edelman-directed project, on Thursday released a statement with the late singer’s estate stating that the project will not be moving forward.
The statement also said that the Prince estate and Netflix have reached a mutual agreement that will allow the estate to develop and produce a new documentary with exclusive material from Prince’s archive, as a result of which the Netflix documentary will not be released.
Prince then posted a video from an X account with the message that the vault has been freed. Last year, it was reported that representatives of the late singer’s estate were unhappy with the factual inaccuracies and sensationalism shown in the six-part documentary about Prince’s life, which was in production for 4 years. The singer died of an accidental overdose of the opioid fentanyl in April 2016 when he was just 57.
